| Is Life Coaching Regulated? |
|
Life Coaching is an unregulated industrY. A governing and regulating body does not exist for Life Coaching as it does for social workers and psychologists.
There is a self -appointed body called the International Coach Federation that tries to bring some standards and structure into the industry in the U.S. The ICF coaching credential verifies all coaching related training and experience.
The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) verifies a coach's education (BA, MSW etc.) and all coaching related experience and training.
There are many people calling themselves life coaches who have not received any training. Be sure to review their credentials and make sure you feel comfortable working with them. Be careful when they offer you the magical road to happiness and a fulfilled life.
I recommend you choose a life coach who has received education and training from an accredited university in one of the helping fields such as social work, counseling or psychology and additional training in the foundational theories of life coaching.
